Visit Amesbury, it is the home of Stonehenge and makes an ideal base for people wishing to visit the many tourist attractions in the area. It is well servied by local hotels and also has a great range of pubs and restaurants.
It is a small town in South Wiltshire, just 2 miles east of Stonehenge and 8 miles to the North of Salisbury. Amesbury is a popular tourist destination for visitors to Stonehenge and also because of the near by historic Cathedral in Salisbury.
Amesbury has very good transport links and is just a short drive from the Countess Roundabout junction of the A303. It is well served by the Solstice business park and offers fast access to Bristol, London and the port of Southampton.
Many tourists that visit Amesbury and Salisbury will want to visit Stonehenge. If you are staying in Amesbury then you can even walk to the stones via Countess Road and use the pedestrian underpass at the A303. For more details read my guide entitled How to get to Stonehenge
For road access to Stonehenge from Amesbury, use the A303 and head West, turn off at Longbarrow roundabout and follow the signs along the A360 to the Stonehenge visitor centre. Parking costs £5 and can be bought from ticket kiosks on the site. There are also 22 disabled parking spaces available. The nearest postal address for the Stonehenge visitor centre is Nr Shrewton, Wiltshire SP3 4DX

The town has a good mixture of accommodation with 2 hotels in the town centre as well as plent of other hotels in the vicinity. The Antrobus Arms Hotel is located at 15 Church Street and The George Hotel is in the High Street. You'll also find pages listing bed and breakfast accommodation and pubs on this website. The closest hotel to Stonehenge is the Travelodge close to the Countess roundabout.
